On February 7, 2026, the Artists’ Showcase Exhibition 2026 at Herring Island Gallery was officially opened in the picturesque setting of Herring Island. This much-anticipated cultural event marked a significant moment for the artistic community, celebrating creativity, diversity, and the powerful connection between artists and the public.
The Parks Victoria punt does a short but enjoyable trip from Como Landing to Herring Island, and back again as required, delighting visitors of all ages.
Visitors of all ages enjoyed the opening, the artworks and the refreshments served by our wonderful volunteers.
The gallery doors opened before 11:00 a.m., welcoming visitors early in the day. From that moment until 4:30 p.m., there was a steady and enthusiastic flow of attendees who entered and exited the gallery, taking their time to explore and enjoy a rich and inspiring exhibition. The atmosphere throughout the day was vibrant and dynamic, filled with colour, stories, and artistic life. Visitors were immersed in an exhibition that reflected not only technical skill but also emotional depth and creative diversity.
A diversity of visitors at the opening
The official opening of the exhibition took place between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. During this period, the gallery experienced one of its highest concentrations of visitors. However, attendance was strong throughout the entire day, demonstrating sustained interest and engagement well beyond the formal opening hours. The remarkable turnout transformed the inauguration into a memorable day for art, culture, and wholesome entertainment, reinforcing the importance of accessible artistic spaces within the community. One of the most notable aspects of the event was the diversity of its audience. Visitors of all ages attended the exhibition, from young children to adults and seniors, all of whom expressed genuine enjoyment and admiration for the artworks on display. Each piece resonated differently with viewers, yet there was a shared appreciation for the colour, creativity, and variety present in the exhibition. The diversity of artistic voices allowed every visitor to find something meaningful and engaging.

Attendance data confirms the success of the event, with a total of 288 visitors recorded on the opening day alone. This figure represents a significant achievement for an exhibition inauguration and serves as clear evidence of the community’s strong interest in and love for the arts. Beyond attendance, this enthusiasm was also reflected in the commercial success of the exhibition. Many of the works displayed were purchased during the opening day, providing tangible support to the participating artists and underscoring the value that visitors placed on the artworks.
The Artist Showcase Exhibition 2026 featured an impressive range of works and contributors. In total, 77 artworks created by 28 artists were exhibited and another 77 artworks on paper. The exhibition also included 136 artist cards, offering visitors additional insight into the creators and their artistic journeys. Sales reached a record level for an Artists’ Showcase exhibition, with 8 exhibited artworks and 13 works on paper sold. This outstanding result marks a milestone for the gallery and for the artists involved, highlighting the exhibition’s strong impact and appeal.
The success of this event reinforces the growing reputation of the Artists’ Showcase Exhibition at Herring Island Gallery as a cultural highlight that continues to gain recognition and appreciation year after year. Its ability to attract a wide audience, generate meaningful artistic exchange, and support artists both creatively and economically demonstrates its cultural significance and lasting value.
So many good works in the show, and the artists’ cards and the Works On Paper were also greatly enjoyed.
