Review - Art at Burnley Harbour 2016
1-4 December 2016
At this year's Art at Burnley Harbour, over 350 artworks by 80 artists made a fantastic display which literally had people stopping in their tracks. Of our several thousand visitors, many had heard about the show through advertising, invitations and signage, many more “discovered” it on their usual walk or bike ride along the busy bike path that runs along the Yarra Bank.
City of Yarra kindly provided designated parking for artists, helpers and visitors all along the McConchie Reserve side of Mary St.
One of the best things about this exhibition was to see people stop and approach the artworks with looks of wonder and delight. Another delight was to share their joy when they found a treasure, sometimes multiple treasures, and proceeded to make their purchase.
The Sculpture Garden looked great and was well received by visitors, with 15 works attractively placed amongst trees and shrubs. Another 16 sculptures were in the undercover area nearby.
Art at Burnley Harbour attracts crowds of visitors each year
Many children enjoyed arty activities at the “Kids Zone”, where we had set up a special table for them, with sets of coloured pencils, crayons and felt-tip pens, and copies of hand-drawn pictures for them to colour in and take home. It was good to see that some adults had a go as well!
The “Dog Café” provided canine visitors with some dry food and a welcome drink of water.
Art at Burnley Harbour show was once again a great success, and we warmly thank all the people who helped to make this happen, including CAS Committee and Members, participating artists, and our many visitors to the event.
