Review by Peter Jankowski
The exhibited work by Damian Curtain reflects a thoughtful blend of realism and sensitivity to the natural world that surrounds us all. Damian’s deep concern for the environment, the beauty of which often fades before our eyes, resonates clearly through his art.

Working in watercolour, a medium known for its delicacy and unpredictability, Damian demonstrates remarkable control and confidence. He handles watercolour with the same ease that others might use a pencil, achieving harmony between precision and spontaneity. Each piece reveals both his technical mastery and his emotional connection to nature’s fragile beauty.

As a psychotherapist, I have learned that teaching can often be a profound form of learning. Damian’s work as an art teacher for adults and people with disabilities reflects this same principle. By sharing his skills, he continually draws inspiration and new perspectives from his students, a creative exchange that enriches both teacher and learner.

Among his ceramic works, my personal favourite is Orang-utan. It powerfully evokes our shared origins as living beings, portraying a mother and her offspring in a moment of tender connection. The sculpture reminds us of the primal and symbolic bond linking humanity with the rest of life on this planet, a theme that runs quietly yet deeply through all of Damian’s art.
